Permanent Loans
Noble Long-Term Guests
The Leopold Museum’s own unique collection of artworks of Viennese Modernism is further enriched with numerous long-term loans. These afford visitors an even more varied and fascinating experience of the permanent presentation Vienna 1900 and allow the Leopold Museum to put on exciting special exhibitions. Natural persons or corporate entities place these loans at the disposal of museum institutions free of charge for a long-term or unlimited period. This greatly benefits an art-enthusiastic public who are able to enjoy works that would otherwise not be displayed. Under these forms of contract, the museums are only temporary holders of the loans rather than owners of the artworks. However, we treat the objects entrusted to us like our property, and afford them the same conservational and restorational care. Requesting artworks which complement our holdings in terms of content and style as permanent loans from trusted private individuals and institutions enables us to close gaps in the collection with key works and to specifically highlight individual exhibition aspects.
