Karl Hubbuch (1891–1979) captured two figures in his drawing Old Couple (Slightly Inebriated) in a sketch-like manner and with fleeting strokes, but with a keen eye for the distinctive, bizarre and original: The artist rendered the female wearing a slanted cloche hat, her pug face with a button nose, half-closed eyes behind circular glasses and an enraptured expression turned to the side, while the elongated face of the male figure with a distinctive moustache is making contact with the beholder via his overly emphasized eye and raising his hat in greeting. The two protagonists appear to be sitting close together at a round table hinted at with oval lines. The scene has an original and whimsical character.
