Geometric patterns played an important role for the Wiener Werkstätte. Their harmonic combination of simplicity and functionality determined the association’s definition of quality. Artisans, designers and creators influenced the visual appearance of the collective. Clients of the Wiener Werkstätte were able to purchase hand-painted and printed fabrics from 1905. Emilie Flöge (1874–1952) also owned several of these pieces, such as this Two-Piece Black Shawl with White Dots, created around 1910. It is made of a finely pleated fabric with white circles placed close to each other and arranged in vertical lines.
