These two designs by Gustav Klimt (1862–1918) were executed for a dedication leaflet created by several artists in celebration of the architect Otto Wagner’s (1841–1918) 70th birthday on 13th July 1911. A photograph of this dedication leaflet, which is now lost, has survived among Egon Schiele’s (1890–1918) estate. The execution of the design largely corresponded to the present study, showing a standing Nike from the front holding flower bouquets in her raised hands. Another study for the dedication leaflet, evidently created a short time earlier, which features no less than six different compositional sketches, shows the figures holding floral wreaths instead of bouquets. In all the variants, the floor-length dress, which has a strict triangular shape, reveals the woman’s naked body between the rich ornamentation. The oval and spiral shapes represent variations of the coat decor found in the group Expectation from the Stoclet Frieze which was executed in 1911 as a mosaic. The triangular shapes in one of the aforementioned design variants, meanwhile, reappear in Fulfillment from the Stoclet Frieze.
