Letter from Egon Schiele to Carl Reininghaus
27th Aug. 1916
(Tulln 1890–1918 Vienna)
(Graz 1857–1929 Vienna)
Transcription:
Mühling, 27th August 1916.
Dear Mr. Reininghaus! – I often contemplate the fact that I have
received sums from you for which you have not yet gotten
anything in return. My circumstances as a soldier, which grant
me only minutes in which to work – will justify me, I hope? – I
am fully aware that it was negligent of me not to settle my debts
with you before the war started.
I have been a soldier for 14 months now – and my work in
Vienna has been put on hold since then. Here, I have been
assigned a small space in the storehouse where I can work every
now and then. – Believe me, I am not idle for even a minute.
I am working on some pictures and I hope to get them
ready for inspection by autumn.
I come to Vienna every third Sunday and work as much as
I can.
I would be very much delighted if you could come see me
next time I’m in Vienna (Sunday, 10th September).
If it is convenient for you to visit me that day, please
send me a brief note in advance.
My best regards!
EGON
SCHIELE
