Emilie Flöge (1874–1952) was not only considered Gustav Klimt’s (1862–1918) muse and most significant other in life, but she was also an eminent fashion designer. Together with her sisters Pauline (1866–1917) and Helene (1871–1936), she ran the “Flöge Sisters” fashion salon, established 1904 in the so-called Casa Piccola house on 1b Mariahilferstrasse. It was her who designed Klimt’s painter’s smock in which he had himself photographed by his friend, Austrian photographer Moriz Nähr (1959–1945). In her own salon, so-called reform dresses were designed, comfortably and loosely cut without out a corset. This meant new freedom and lightness for the wearer. The Bodice from the “Schwestern Flöge” fashion salon is a high-necked top with a waistband of black silk taffeta and adorned with white lace. The cut of the blouse-like bodice accentuates a slim waistline.
