Currently on display at OG3
The sculptor, graphic designer and painter Alfred Hrdlicka (1928–2009) was a student of bei Albert Paris Gütersloh (1887–1973) and Fritz Wotruba (1907–1975), amongst others, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, where he experimented with various media. In 1963, Hrdlicka created a portrait of his colleague, the artist Oskar Kokoschka (1886–1980), who taught at Salzburg’s International Summer Academy the same year. Made from various materials such as bronze or marble, the portrait of the former Enfant Terrible of the Wiener Moderne shows the face of a pensive artist. A version of the bust was unveiled in honour of the exceptional artist Kokoschka on his 100th birthday, the 1st of March 1986, from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.
