In 1914, the Harms sisters made the acquaintance of the artist Egon Schiele (1890–1918), whose studio was situated opposite the Harms family’s home on Hietzinger Hauptstraße. Schiele started courting both sisters, wrote letters to them, and for a while, both Edith (1893–1918) and Adele Harms (1890–1968) modeled for Schiele. He created drawings and paintings of the two sisters, including Seated Woman with Garters (Adele Harms) and Edith Harms with Small Hat. Both sisters also posed for photographs at Schiele’s studio. This shot shows Adele fully clothed, unlike in the photographs Adele Harms, Seated, in Underwear and Adele Harms, Standing, in Underwear. She is wearing a dress with a lace collar and sleeves, a wide-brimmed hat and a fur collar around her shoulders.
