Several photographs of Egon Schiele’s (1890–1918) wife Edith (1893–1918) were created at the artist’s studio, which show her in various poses. While Edith assumed a confident stance in later photographs *Edith Schiele with Her Dog, Lord, in the Background the Paintings Reclining Woman and Girl, she still appears rather timid in this photograph taken around 1915. Smiling candidly into the camera, Edith is wearing a two-piece suit, complemented by a hat with a broad, transparent brim and a fox fur stole. The fur collar appears to have been a favored accessory, as it features in several shots of Edith and her sister Adele Harms (1890–1968), for instance in the photograph Edith Schiele with Fox Fur and Black Skirt and Adele Harms with Hat and Fur Collar.
