Unfortunately not on display at the moment
On this sketch sheet, Egon Schiele (1890–1918) compiled six composition sketches, five of which are quite clearly connected to paintings created in 1914: The upper row shows Young Mother and “Blind Mother”; below them are sketched Wilted Sunflowers, Houses with Laundry (Suburb II) as well as, set apart to the far right, “Houses by the Sea” (“Row of Houses”). It remains unclear for what purpose the pictograms were compiled – whether as a simple reminder for the artist or possibly in the context of exhibition preparations. The artist frequently used stationery with the signet of the Neukunstgruppe, in whose founding in 1909 Schiele played an instrumental role, as a substrate for sketches and drafts, as seen in Sketch Sheet with Composition Studies or Sketch Sheet with Composition Studies and the Signet of the Neukunstgruppe.
