30th Dec. [19]16.
My dearest Edith! You are probably eagerly awaiting my report on how your father is doing, well, he is not doing any worse but not better, either, he sleeps a lot but is still very interested in everything, he always finds something to complain about.
The Erdmanns visited us yesterday, Fritz [Erdmann] thinks he is looking very poorly, but I believe he will rally once more; you must see Fritz’s Christmas present, 6 splendid pieces, an antique gold watch with a platinum chain and 5 pearls 1 wallet, a purse, 3 beautiful pocket knives, the watch alone is worth 1000 c. [crowns], more for collectors of course, the rest 200 c. but Fritz himself will have to tell you what has happened before the delivery, it is incredible.
Yesterday Dela [Adele Harms] went to First Lieutenant [Karl] Grünwald she did not get anything, unfortunately, because there was nothing there, not before next Wednesday. Yesterday I sent the letter from Baden to Egon [Schiele] have you gotten it yet? Don’t forget to write me the result, my dear sweet Edith, don’t be cross with me for causing you trouble yet again I will send you 10 c. do send me the shoes; should they not be finished yet get the cobbler to hurry up because I really need them.
Goodbye for now I have to run, your father is indeed needed, you know, all day long I have no time to rest.
Loving kisses
M. [Mother]
