Soon after founding the Wiener Werkstätte, Koloman Moser (1868–1918) developed his first lattice object in the shape of this 1904 Flower Stand. He subsequently created a series of perforated vessels, such as tabletops, vases and baskets which are all characterized by their geometrical openwork and are hardly distinguishable from Josef Hoffmann’s (1870–1956) latticeworks on account of their similarities. The items were produced in an upmarket and a cheaper version, depending on the materials used. They were either fashioned from white-varnished zinc or sheet iron, or from high-quality silver.
