Sunday, 29th June 1913.
Dear Mr. Reininghaus!
Over the last few days, I painted a new picture of the city of Stein – the city in the glow of the late evening sun. I was in Krummau for 10 days, and would like to spend the summer in Carinthia, as I long to paint mountain chains. I would therefore like to ask you kindly if you could send me all or half of the fee for the Benesch double portrait immediately, if you could. – I think you will agree if I ask for 600 K [crowns] for the double portrait plus a landscape that I will paint in the summer – this could either be the above-mentioned painting of the city of Stein, or mountain chains I intend to paint. I could also write to Munich directly to say that the double portrait is now part of your private collection. If I knew when you would be in Vienna, I would plan accordingly.
Warmest regards,
Egon Schiele
