Translation of the Transcription:

VIENNA, 1st district, 4th January 1918.

Dear Merkl [Georg Merkel], as you will have learnt from Oberlt. [First Lieutenant] [Karl] Grünwald, I have been able to carry through an exhibition of new Austrian art at the Vienna Secession. We want to have displays in individual rooms and an overview exhibition. Please send a large amount of your best paintings there at your earliest convenience, and let us know which of them you would like to see reproduced in the catalogue. We want to dedicate a whole room to your work.

Kind regards!
