20th Sept. 1918.
Dear Madam, – as much as I like
my new studio and as easy as it is
to heat, as I’ve found,
there is one severe grievance that
keeps me in awe – humidity.
The landlord, who is a terrible miser,
is unwilling to take care of anything
even in normal conditions
and I do not intend to impoverish
myself further by adding to my
expenses. – Even though the [Gustav] Klimt House
on Feldmühlgasse holds many memories for me,
I have thought about it, and it has been suggested
to me by many parties that I should rent
this studio, should there be no better plans
for it, before it is rented by a disgusting
Philistine. – I don’t know if this is
even possible and whom I should
consult in the matter – at any rate,
I would cherish this place and never
give it up, even if I were to leave
Vienna.
Therefore, I am asking you, Madam,
to please support me in this endeavor
and to maybe place an inquiry with the
current administrators, whom I believe
you know.
I have 1 kg of tobacco.
When should I come to O. W. [Oberwaltersdorf]?
Will spend a few days in Klagenfurt.
My best regards to everyone in Ober-Waltersdorf,
respectfully yours,
EGON
