Letter from Anton Peschka to Egon Schiele
9th Jul. 1913
(Vienna 1885–1940 Vienna)
(Tulln 1890–1918 Vienna)
Translation of the Transcription:
Dear Egon!
Thank you for both your cards. But they are causing your mother to be jealous. She is spending a whole morning arguing about you. I’d rather not say anything final about Villach yet. I am not treating myself to anything anymore. I can’t come to any arrangement with Hauer without you, after all, and otherwise it would not be enough! – – – – – Your mother has been mad with you since Sunday! – She went to your father’s grave! – Gerti went along to place some flowers on the grass! – – – – She said that a few cornstalks had waved at her from the sunken heap of earth. She was very sorry about this! Gerti wants to arrange for some flowers and she will have to scrimp and save to be able to afford that! – I know that you haven’t forgotten the noble heart which is lying in the ground there, and of which Gerti likes to talk to me! – Commemorate the dead! – The idea of a stone doesn’t appeal to me but, together with Gerti, arrange for a carpet of flowers!
Your friend always, painter Ant [Anton] Peschka.
