Anton Faistauer’s (1887–1930) frescoes are counted among his most significant works today. In 1929, he received a commission for a fresco showing the subject of Diana Returning from the Hunt as a staircase ceiling decoration in the Ledererschlössel in Hadersdorf-Weidlingau near Vienna. Before the former garden palace from the 18th century was demolished in the 1970s, the fresco was taken down and relocated to the Altes Borromäum of the Mozarteum University. In this study, we see from below a musician performing with verve a jaunty piece of music on the violine. He is wearing a red costume. The figure belongs to the fresco on the stair parapet.
