The painter and graphic artist Erwin Lang (1886-1962) remained connected to dance throughout his life. This may be due to his first wife, the famous dancer Grete Wiesenthal (1885–1970). Lang designed productions especially for her and portrayed her several times, as for example in the work Grete Wiesenthal in a Lanscape. On this sheet the expressive dancer is only covered by a federboa and some loose ribbons. Immersed in movement, she seems to loose herself in it. The display does not allow a localization of the scene. In 1910, in collaboration with Oscar Brie , Lang published this – under the title Pan Dance - as well as other represenatations of his wife in a book and a portfolio Grete Wiesenthal. Holzschnitte von Erwin Lang. In the introduction, Brie wrote: “There are not many such as her. A swarm of dilettantes would have to lie at her feet and beg for forgiveness.“
