In 1913, 22 young, predominantly female textile designers from Bavaria joined forces to found a syndicate aimed primarily at a more efficient distribution of their products. Above all, the members wanted to cooperate with department stores, among them that of Hermann Tietz (1837–1907) (which, during the “Aryanization” of the 1930s, was renamed “Hertie”). In July 1913, the department store chain’s Munich branch showed “beautiful embroideries and hand-woven works, charming blankets and cushions, rugs and purses” (Augsburger Zeitung). Emil Pirchan (1884–1957), who designed the exhibition poster as well as this announcement, added some of his own works from his series of printed graphic works Münchner Ansichten to this sales exhibition.
