This flowerpot was designed by the architect and designer Josef Hoffmann (1870–1956) around 1912. Hoffmann used a simple, cylindrical basic form, resting on four oval feet. The cylinder’s surface, by contrast, boasts an embossed relief, depicting wavelike tendrils and oval medallions. The well-matched succession of these motifs rhythmize the object and invests it with a precious appearance, reinforced by the gilding. Unfortunately, it is not known who carried out the execution of this design.
