Around 1920, the architect and designer Josef Hoffmann (1870–1956) designed a myriad of objects from chased sheet metal, such as these two brass goblets (cf. Brass Goblet). Both objects are characterized by a tent-like foot and a chalice-like cup. The surfaces of both objects boast a hammered finish and reflect the light in an unconventional manner. Repoussé work was highly popular in the early 20th century, and Hoffmann, too, valued this ancient method of treating precious and non-precious metals. Both goblets were executed by the Wiener Werkstätte.
