This vase was designed by the architect and designer Josef Hoffmann (1870–1956) between 1904 and 1906. The funnel-shaped vase is resting on four cylindrical feet. The reduced geometrical form language of this object is typical for the early period of the Wiener Werkstätte, founded in 1903. The execution, using silver-plated sheet alpacca with a hammered finish, was carried out by Johann Blaschek, a silversmith working for the Wiener Werkstätte, who was allowed to place his monogram next to that of Josef Hoffmann. This illustrates the importance the Winer Werkstätte attached to the partnership between designers and executing craftsmen.
