Unfortunately not on display at the moment
Carl Moll (1861–1945) found the motif for this painting at the grounds of Schönbrunn Palace. The park was designed in the 18th century in the style of Baroque landscape architecture, which originated in France and soon took hold elsewhere. Landscape artists discovered their love of symmetry, decorated gardens with sculptures and artificially styled the growth of the plants. Using avenues and visual axes, the park has a geometrical layout. The artist placed his easel in one of these avenues. He let his eye wander along the trees, past a stone vase on a high pedestal towards a sun-drenched clearing adorned with a sculpture. The view opens up further into the distance, to the beginning of another avenue inviting beholders to go for a stroll.
