This lamp was designed by Koloman Moser (1868–1918) as one of the first lamps for the Wiener Werkstätte and executed by Karl Medl. Fashioned from silver-plated alpacca, it features a decorative hammered finish. The lamp is characterized by cut-glass rods arranged around the bulb. It was used in the office of the fashion salon run by the Flöge sisters and was a companion piece to the salon’s wall lights which also featured glass rods. A similar lamp would adorn the nightstand in the bedroom of the apartment, completed in 1905, of Margarete (1882–1958) and Jerome Stonborough-Wittgenstein (1873–1938). The lamp was further used in the Flöge sisters’ fashion salon (Casa Piccola).
