Josef Hoffmann’s (1871–1954) interior design of the Cabaret Fledermaus located in Vienna’s city center, is one of the most important projects of the Wiener Werkstätte with the Palais Stoclet in Brussels and the Sanatorium Purkersdorf. The Cabaret Fledermaus, which opened in 1907, presented multimedia art productions, such as dance performances from the Wiesenthal sisters. One of the establishment’s distinctive and well-known features is the entrance hall with a bar, whose walls were covered with a mosaic of colorful tiles by Bertold Löffler (1874–1960) and Michael Powolny (1871–1954). The square, colorfully decorated tiles with a floral wreath (also see Tile and Tile with Flower Basket) as well as different tiles with cherubs (see Tile with Putto and Tile with Putto and Flowers) were part of the wall mosaic that reached up to head height.
