Around 1915, his fellow artist Johannes Fischer (1888–1955) photographed Egon Schiele (1890–1918) at the latter’s studio in Vienna at Hietzinger Hauptstraße 101. Fischer, who was two years older than Schiele, had his first public appearance in the 1914 Carl Reininghaus Contest at the Pisko Gallery, along with Anton Faistauer (1887–1930), Albert Paris Gütersloh (1887–1973), Schiele and others. It was presumably on this occasion that the two artists first met.
Schiele is seated in one of the chairs that can be seen in several of his portraits, for instance in his first painted portrait of his father-in-law Johannes Harms (1843–1917), created in 1916. On the table next to him, there are various objects, including a late Gothic figure (of Christ). Schiele had borrowed this figure from his patron Arthur Roessler (1877–1955). He later came to own it. Today the figure is preserved at the Wien Museum.
