Alice Strobl ascertained that this female nude, floating with outstretched arms and viewed from below, is the study for a figure that is clearly discernible in the transfer sketch for the Faculty Painting Medicine Gustav Klimt (1862–1918) executed in 1900. This figure is situated directly above the male nude from behind rising up in the center of the depiction with an outstretched left arm. In the painted version, executed immediately after the transfer sketch, this female figure differs significantly from that in the original study. A remarkable feature of this work on paper is that it was created using an intricate mix of red and blue crayon, especially given the highly fragmentary character of the motif.
