Unfortunately not on display at the moment
This undated photograph shows young Edith Harms (1893–1918), who would later marry Egon Schiele (1890–1918). She is reclining on a sofa, her head propped up on her bent arm. She is gazing directly at the camera. The photograph was cut into its current oval shape by an unknown hand; only Edith’s upper body remains visible. A stenographic note on the reverse suggests the reason for this alteration; apparently, the full format of the photograph showed Edith naked with her thighs spread on the sofa. Edith was also repeatedly depicted in the nude by her husband in his later works, but her features are always modified or her face is turned away, as in [Edith and Egon Schiele in Embrace](/en/object/LM 3764).
