Unfortunately not on display at the moment
Tina Blau-Lang (1845–1916) found the majority of her motifs in Holland, Germany, Italy and the environs of Vienna. The painting Grinzing Scene with Staffage shows her interest in views into villages, with the roads emerging from the depth of the pictorial plane opening up into a square in the foreground. Along with the charming depiction of a Viennese suburb, the work features genre-like scenes such as playing children and a woman cleaning a window. The blue skies shrouded in a fine haze convey a summery atmosphere, while the pictorial effect is dominated by contrasting areas of light and shadow. The artist’s quest for sunlight set in with her trips to Italy from the late 1870s and resulted in a lighter palette in her oeuvre.
